Listed as “Band” in the course catalog, the Hoover Tornado Marching Band (HTMB) is Hoover High School’s award winning marching band which travels and competes throughout Southern California, primarily in the California State Band Championships circuit. The HTMB has earned five consecutive Division Championships in CSBC from 2015-2019!
The HTMB is a prestigious group comprised of dedicated, hard-working young musicians and dancers who develop and perform a field show for competition. HTMB includes winds, percussion, and color guard students who perform at football games, field tournaments, pep rallies, and various campus and community events. Due to our competitive season, we routinely have summer practices and a 2-week marching band camp before the start of the school year. Please contact the Director for more information.
All students are welcome to join HTMB as no prior experience of any kind is needed. We will teach you everything you need to know, but experience in music is also highly valued! The HTMB may be repeated for credit, but is offered in fall semester only. In the second semester, the band transforms into The Principal’s Own Concert Band. Participation in second semester Principal’s Own (zero period “band”) is required by all students, as well as any requested Twisters performances.
Marching Band is a strenuous physical activity. To improve physical endurance, students will stretch, work out, and perform calisthenics. Any student with limiting medical conditions must provide the Director with a doctor’s note detailing those conditions and limitations. A student’s level of participation may be affected by such circumstances. Due to the physical nature of this activity, active enrollment in the HTMB counts as a physical education credit. Students are expected to enroll in a “plus one” music course to officially earn their music credit for being enrolled.
